The Friends of the American Latino Museum is kicking off the 2012 Campaign Design Contest! As we finish a year filled with major accomplishments in 2011, we look forward to more continued progress in 2012. Now we need your help to create this year’s design and theme for representing the American Latino Museum in our efforts to engage the community, move them to action, and pass legislation.

The winning design image will be the foundation for our informational handouts, campaign posters, promotional buttons, donation cards, and other promotional materials. As we are seeking to create the first and only national museum focused on telling American Latino history, the winner of this contest will be part of a historic movement.

You don’t need to be a professional artist to submit an entry. We want this design to be a true representation of the American Latino community, and that means all of you – our loyal supporters! All artistic methods will be accepted, from painting to graphic design to sculpture, please feel free to be as creative as you like. The winner of this contest will not only have their design seen by hundreds of thousands of people, but will also be invited to a prestigious unveiling event for the contestant’s winning design.

The deadline for submission is May 15, 2012 at midnight PST. The finalists will be announced, and the public will then vote to determine the final winner of the contest.

For Details Visit: Friends of the American Latino Museum 2012 Campaign Design Contest!

LBC-GLA Members Meeting with Federal Reserve Governor Sarah Bloom Raskin (far left) on 4/11/12

Federal Reserve Governor Sara Bloom Raskin visited the Latino Business Chamber of Greater Los Angeles on April 11, 2012. This very rare occurrence is based upon the great level of advocacy in Washington D.C., that this chamber conducts on national issues impacting small businesses and minority communities in Washington D.C. This chamber plays a lead role on lending issues and the absence of lending, supplier diversity, mergers and acquisitions, and the overall review and analysis of banking practices by the laws and regulations that provide oversight to most of the major and mid-sized banks in the nation.

Several LBC-GLA Board members and Policy Committee members hosted a small group of guests from affiliate and partner groups including representatives from the Association of Latino Landscape Professionals, Black Economic Council, and the Nat’l Asian American Coalition. Three LBC-GLA minority-owned banks provided additional expertise as well, including ProAmerica Bank, Cathay Bank, and Pan- American Bank.

It is rare that Governors of the Federal Reserve outreach to small business owners on their particular concerns and economic views. Chairman and CEO of the Latino Business Chamber of Greater Los Angeles, Jorge Corralejo, stated that he was “greatly moved by Governor Raskins’ great interest in the sentiments of small business owners and their struggles to survive and expand.” Jorge added that “the points discussed in today’s meeting could impact the broad implications of Federal Reserve regulations and could ultimately contribute meaningfully to the overall economic recovery.”
